GUIDELINES FOR JUNIOR CLIMATE CHAMPION 2014

The Junior Climate Champion 2014 is a school based environment related competition for the school students ranging from Class VI to Class X to build a climate conscious future generation for Bangladesh who will actively participate in learning, awareness building, prevention & mitigation efforts for climate challenges of Bangladesh.

The Junior Climate Champion competition for the year 2014 will be held among the school students from Class VI to Class X in Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet division.

Competition areas in Junior Climate Champions 2014

The entirety of Junior Climate Champion 2014 contest will have four different competition areas where the students the students will compare against each other.

  • Poster design/Painting on climate related issues
  • Climate quiz
  • Extempore speech on climate related issues
  • Environment related project on climate change or the environment

In each competition area students will compete in two different class groups. Which are:

  • Group 1:  includes students from grades VI – VIII and
  • Group 2:  includes students from grades IX – X.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Participant must wear respective school uniform.
  • Participants must bring necessary equipments needed for their category.
  • Paper required for the competition will be provided for the participants of Painting and Poster designing at the beginning of competition.
  • Participants of Painting can only use pen, pencil, water color, oil paint or crayon as mediums. Participant can use only one medium for Painting competition.
  • Participants of Poster Designing can use pen, pencil, water color, poster color, crayon, coloring pencil, felt tip pens, extra paper and glue as medium. Participants can use more than one medium for Poster Designing.
  • Participants must bring their own choice of medium.
  • No TA/DA will be provided for participation.

Guidelines for Painting Competition:

There will be a list of topics to choose from for Painting Competition. The topics for Painting will be provided to the candidates at the beginning of the competition.

  • The topics provided will be based on Climate Change.
  • The subject of the painting must be original.
  • Participants can only use pen, pencil, water color, oil paint, and crayon as mediums. Participant can use only one medium for Painting competition
  • Paper will be supplied to the participants. The other mediums have to be brought by the participants.
  • The painting will be judged on the originality of the concept, relevance to the theme and artistic skills.

Guidelines for Poster Competition:

There will be a list of topics to choose from. The topics for Poster will be provided to the candidates at the beginning of the competition.

  • The topics provided will be based on Climate Change.
  • The poster must contain a strong slogan.
  • The design and the content of the poster must be original.
  • Participants can use pen, pencil, water color, poster color, crayon, coloring pencil, felt tip pens, extra paper and glue as medium. Participants can use more than one medium for Poster Designing.
  • Paper will be supplied to the participants. The other mediums have to be brought by the participants.
  • Plagiarized content will be disqualified without any prior notice.

Guidelines for Climate Quiz:

  • The Quiz competition will be based on short questions which mostly demand one word answers and a few descriptive answers related to Climate Change facts and issues.
  • Students will be given 30 questions to answer.
  • The duration of the quiz competition is 45 minutes for both Group 1 and Group 2
  • In case of a tie, a knock out round will be held where students will be challenged with 10 short knock out questions. The top scorer from Group 1 and Group 2 will be crowned as the Junior Climate Champion (Quiz).

Guidelines for Project:

  • The project should be based on climate change or any issue related to environment in Bangladesh.
  • The project can be made in either one of the 3 forms-
                     i) A scientific paper mode
                     ii) power point presentation
                     ii)  model

  • A maximum of 3 members are allowed in a group including the team leader.
  • The idea of the project must be original.
  • Plagiarized content will be disqualified.

Guidelines for Climate Extempore Speech

  • The subjects of the speech will be based on the themes of climate change
  • Topics are distributed among participants and they will get 15 minutes of time for preparation
  • The speech should be around 3 minutes long
  • The speech will be judged on content, originality and fluency.
